Review: Glenhouse, Aberdeen

Review: Glenhouse, Aberdeen

New to Aberdeen’s hospitality scene in 2025, Glenhouse brings a welcome bistro experience to the Granite Mile.

Situated on Union Street, within the historic Canada House which many will remember as the Bank of Scotland, Glenhouse brings a contemporary dining experience to city-goers, offering an à la carte menu, small plates, delicious cocktails, pre-theatre menu and more.

To start, we ordered a couple of small plates to share as well as a bread basket which had a variety of bread, always a welcome sight.

The chorizo in red wine was flavourful and slow-cooked to be tender – something I really like, just be aware if you like your chorizo with a bit more of a bite – while the cauliflower did have bite and was accompanied by a spicy honey dipping sauce.

Moving onto the mains, I decided upon the chicken and mushroom pancetta, an offering of grilled chicken thighs in a creamy smoked pancetta and mushroom sauce, served with roasted new potatoes and mixed vegetables (also gluten free). The chicken was succulent, pairing well with the saltier pancetta and the creamy gentle flavours of the mushroom sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked to be soft on the inside with a crunch on the out also with a sprinkling of rock salt.

My dining partner opted for the Linguine Frutti Di Mare, a lovely and fragrant linguine pasta with shell-off king prawns, mussels and calamari in a garlic butter and white wine sauce. The portion size was generous and seafood tasted fresh complimented by the rich, buttery sauce.

Pleasantly fed and full, we sadly didn’t have room to sample the desserts on offer.

As for the drinks, anyone who knows me will tell you I am a sucker for an Espresso Martini and tend to order one at most places if they are on offer, so I did.

Is this Aberdeen’s best Espresso Martini? In my humble opinion, yes. Beyond this cocktail, the drinks offering has been considered as important as the food and allowed to shine in its own right. Another light and refreshing option is their house lager.

Glenhouse is the perfect stop if you are looking for a bite to eat before attending an event at the Music Hall, just a short diagonal crossing at the junction outside.

In fact, if you are sitting in the window on an autumn evening like I was, you can enjoy views of the Music Hall and Union Street as the sun sets and paints the sky above the granite in pinks and oranges.
