Panda & Sons: Scottish speakeasy named best in the world

Scottish speakeasy Panda & Sons, tucked beneath the streets of Edinburgh, has been officially named the No.1 Bar in the World in the 2025 Top 500 Bars list.

Founded by Iain McPherson in 2013, the bar has earned worldwide acclaim for pioneering sub-zero techniques, flavour preservation, and creative storytelling through cocktails.

This historic win marks a defining moment not only for Panda & Sons but for Scotlands growing reputation on the international drinks stage. It’s the first time a Scottish bar has taken the top spot.

The bar has earned worldwide acclaim for pioneering sub-zero techniques.

From its beginnings as a hidden speakeasy behind the façade of a vintage barber shop, Panda & Sons has become a global symbol of innovation, craftsmanship and hospitality.

‘Its honestly surreal,’ owner Iain said.

‘Being named the worlds number one bar is something we never imagined when we started out in Edinburgh, Scotland.

‘We never set out to win awards, our goal has always been to make people happy through what we love doing.

‘Its a huge credit to our amazing team; the creativity, care and soul they put into every guest experience is what makes Panda & Sons what it is. This award belongs to them.’

With this accolade, Panda & Sons cements its place among the most influential bars in the world.

Iain was also named best bartender by Drink’s International’s Bar World 100 list, the ‘Oscars’ of drinks awards.
