Set within the serene landscape of Highland Perthshire, Birchwood Pitlochry presents an elegant hotel that balances contemporary style with the tranquillity of its natural surroundings.

Located just a short distance from the bustling centre of Pitlochry, it offers guests a peaceful base from which to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque regions, while enjoying a slower pace of life.

Built in the late 19th Century as a country house for Charles Colmore Grant, 7th Baron de Longueuil and attributed to Scottish architects, Kinnear & Peddie, the villa is a fine example of the Scottish Victorian baronial style.

The property is B listed and the paneling in the entrance hall is thought to pre-date the property.

It is believed the house became a hotel in the 1960s and has continued in various hotel styles to this date. The house was originally called Birchwood villa, hence the name, Birchwood Pitlochry.

Thoughtfully designed throughout, Birchwood creates a sense of calm and comfort.

Each room reflects a refined aesthetic, with soft, natural tones and carefully chosen materials mirroring the surrounding woodland.

All bedrooms have been renovated, featuring refreshed interiors, improved layouts, and upgraded amenities.

New hotel TV systems have been installed in all rooms, and amenities now feature Nespresso Professional or Nespresso Vertuo machines, complemented by fine bone china, Scottish shortbread and a selection of teas.

Attention to detail is evident in every element, ensuring a stay that feels both luxurious and welcoming. It’s a genuine ‘home from home’ experience.

Food is approached with the same care and consideration. The focus is on fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the best of Perthshire and Scotland’s natural larder.

Whether it’s a relaxed breakfast or a selection of light bites and comfort classics, dishes celebrate quality, simplicity and flavour.

The hotel has just received an AA 5-star silver Guest Accommodation award with an AA Breakfast and Dinner award too – an incredible achievement after only eight months of ownership. It is now the only AA 5-star silver rated Guest Accommodation in Pitlochry.

The location lends itself to outdoor pursuits, with easy access to renowned lochs, forests and walking trails. Guests can explore local artisan producers and nearby distilleries before returning to Birchwood’s quiet charm.

Combining modern comfort, thoughtful design and an enviable setting, Birchwood Pitlochry offers an authentic Highland escape defined by simplicity, quality and a strong sense of place.

Birchwood Pitlochry is also available for exclusive use, offering complete privacy for gatherings or corporate stays. This eleven-bedroom baronial villa combines elegant interiors, tailored dining and woodland surroundings, creating a secluded yet well-connected base for a truly memorable Highland escape.
